Using a second skin product like Saniderm for tattoo aftercare can help protect your tattoo and promote faster healing. Here are general instructions for aftercare when using a product like Saniderm/Derm Shield:
  1. Leave the Initial Wrap On:
    • I will apply the Saniderm wrap immediately after finishing the tattoo. Leave this initial wrap on for the time recommended which is usually between 24 and 72 hours.
  2. Clean Your Hands:
    • Before touching the tattoo or the Saniderm wrap, wash your hands thoroughly with a mild, fragrance-free soap.
  3. Remove the Wrap Carefully:
    • When it's time to remove the initial wrap, do so carefully. Peel it back slowly, and if it sticks to the tattooed area, you can use warm water to help loosen it.
  4. Clean the Tattoo:
    • Gently wash the tattooed area with mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water. Pat it dry with a clean, soft paper towel.
  5. Allow to Air Dry:
    • Let the tattoo air dry for a few minutes to ensure that it's completely dry before applying a new Saniderm wrap or beginning a moisturizing regime.
  6. Apply a New Saniderm Wrap: Optional
    • Cut a new piece of Saniderm that's large enough to cover the entire tattooed area with a bit of overlap. Peel off the backing and carefully apply the wrap, making sure it adheres well to the skin.
  7. Avoid Excessive Moisture:
    • While wearing Saniderm, avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, such as long showers or swimming. Quick showers are generally okay, but avoid direct, high-pressure water on the tattoo.
  8. No Sun Exposure:
    • Keep the tattooed area out of direct sunlight while the Saniderm is on. UV exposure can cause irritation and affect the healing process.
  9. Clean and Moisturize:
    • After removing the Saniderm, clean the tattooed area again with mild, fragrance-free soap. Apply a thin layer of a recommended tattoo ointment or moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated during the remaining healing process.
Always consult with your tattoo artist for specific aftercare instructions tailored to your tattoo and their preferred methods. Every artist may have slight variations in their recommended aftercare routine.
